Commercial Refrigeration Servicing & Planned Preventative Maintenance

Ecofix Scotland provides routine commercial refrigeration servicing and planned preventative maintenance (PPM) for suitable refrigeration equipment. The aim is to assess condition and operation, complete appropriate maintenance, identify developing issues and give clear recommendations where further work is needed.

Routine Servicing and Planned Preventative Maintenance

Routine servicing and PPM use the same underlying technical servicing standard. PPM adds a more formal management layer around the equipment, including asset identification, planned scheduling, service history and control of outstanding actions.

A PPM arrangement can be particularly useful where a site has several refrigeration assets, where equipment condition needs to be tracked over time, or where maintenance activity needs to be easier to plan and review.

What a Refrigeration Service May Include

The exact work depends on the equipment and operating conditions. Appropriate service activity can include:

general equipment condition and accessible components;
condenser and evaporator cleanliness and airflow;
fan operation and accessible motors/components;
temperature control, sensors, alarms and operating settings;
defrost operation and associated components where applicable;
condensate and drainage condition;
doors, seals and factors affecting temperature control;
refrigerant-side observations where justified by the equipment and findings;
equipment-side electrical components and connections within competence;
ordinary cleaning or sanitising activity associated with the agreed service where appropriate;
identification of deterioration, defects or items requiring repair or further diagnosis.

Routine servicing is not a certification that the equipment is free from hidden or developing faults and it cannot guarantee that a future breakdown will not occur.

If a Fault Is Found During Servicing

If servicing identifies an active fault or a condition that requires work beyond the agreed service scope, the finding will be explained. Where safe, authorised and practical, minor work may be completed within the productive attendance time; substantive repairs, ordered parts, refrigerant or extended diagnosis are treated as additional work and require appropriate customer authorisation.

Multiple Assets at One Premises

A planned-service attendance applies to the premises rather than being charged separately to every asset. Multiple refrigeration assets can be serviced during the same productive visit, with additional engineering time applied where the work extends beyond the included first hour.

How Often Should Commercial Refrigeration Be Serviced?

Twice-yearly servicing is the normal starting recommendation for Commercial Refrigeration. The appropriate frequency can be increased where operating hours, loading, environment, contamination, condition, repeated issues or manufacturer guidance justify closer attention.

Commercial ice machines also require consideration of usage, hygiene and water-system condition; see the dedicated Ice Machine Services page for that equipment.

Planned Service / PPM Charges

Additional standard engineering time is £75 per hour, charged in 15-minute increments after the included hour.

Normal servicing consumables and ordinary cleaning/sanitising materials associated with the agreed service are included. Parts, filters where applicable, refrigerant and substantive repair work are additional.

Qualifications, Certification & Technical Scope

Ecofix Scotland’s Commercial Refrigeration work is supported by company F-Gas certification together with relevant individual F-Gas Category I and hydrocarbon refrigeration qualification evidence. Work is accepted only where the equipment, refrigerant, task, technical information, tools, competence and authorisation support it.

Detailed evidence is held on Ecofix Scotland’s company-wide Qualifications & Certifications page. The service scope on this page remains controlling even where a qualification title is broader.

Service Area

Commercial Refrigeration is provided across Ecofix Scotland’s Normal Service Area. Work outside the Normal Service Area may be accepted by prior agreement where commercially and operationally appropriate.

Frequently Asked Questions

How often should commercial refrigeration be serviced?

Twice yearly is the normal starting recommendation. Frequency can be increased where equipment usage, environment, condition or manufacturer guidance justifies it.

Is PPM different from routine servicing?

The underlying technical servicing standard is the same. PPM adds formal asset, scheduling, service-history and outstanding-action control.

Can several refrigeration units be serviced on one visit?

Yes. One planned-service attendance applies to the premises, and multiple assets can be serviced during the productive visit. Additional time applies if the work extends beyond the included first hour.

Are repairs included in servicing?

Minor safe and practical work may sometimes be completed within productive attendance time. Parts, refrigerant, substantive repairs and extended diagnosis are additional and require authorisation.

Does regular servicing guarantee that equipment will not break down?

No. Servicing can identify deterioration and support reliable operation, but it cannot guarantee that hidden or future faults will not occur.
