Commercial Refrigeration Faults and Repairs

Commercial refrigeration faults can present in many ways. Typical reasons for attendance include:

equipment not reaching or maintaining the required temperature;
intermittent cooling or repeated temperature alarms;
excessive ice or frost build-up;
water or condensate leakage;
fans, compressors, controls, sensors or defrost components not operating correctly;
electrical tripping, unusual noises, vibration or repeated fault indications;
doors, seals or related components affecting refrigeration performance.

These symptoms provide useful information, but determining the cause requires appropriate inspection and testing.

♢

How Ecofix Scotland Diagnoses Refrigeration Faults

Our normal approach is to move from the reported symptom to inspection, testing, evidence, diagnosis and then a repair recommendation. Where relevant, this can include operating checks, temperature and control information, electrical checks, refrigerant-side observations and assessment of components associated with the reported fault.

We do not treat a telephone description or a single symptom as proof of a particular failure, and we do not replace parts merely in the hope that doing so will resolve the fault.

♢

Can the Repair Be Completed During the First Visit?

The first included hour is productive engineering time, not diagnosis-only time. Once a fault has been established, safe, authorised and practical repair work may continue during that included hour where the required parts, access and operating conditions allow.

Some repairs require ordered parts, refrigerant, additional testing, specialist materials, further access or a planned return visit. A first attendance should therefore not be interpreted as a promise that every fault can be fully repaired immediately.

Where further work is needed, the findings and recommended next action will be explained before that work proceeds.

Attendance Charges

AttendanceZone 1Zone 2Includes
Standard fault diagnosis / repair£120£150Attendance + first hour on site
Out-of-hours fault diagnosis / repair£165£195Attendance + first hour on site

Standard additional engineering time is £75 per hour, charged in 15-minute increments after the included hour. Out-of-hours additional engineering time is £95 per hour.

Standard hours are Monday-Friday 08:00-18:00. The approved out-of-hours period is Monday-Friday 18:00-20:00 and Saturday 08:00-18:00. Availability is subject to operational capacity and is not an unrestricted 24/7 or Sunday service promise.

♢

Parts, Refrigerant and Further Work

Where ordered parts or special-order components are required, the next stage will be explained and an estimate provided before further work proceeds. Parts requiring ordering are normally paid for before the order is placed.

Refrigerant, where required, is charged separately according to the refrigerant type and quantity used, with applicable minimum charges. Existing R404A systems are assessed according to their actual condition and the technically appropriate repair, retrofit or replacement options.

♢

Protecting Refrigerated Stock

Where a refrigeration failure puts temperature-sensitive stock at risk, customers should take reasonable practical steps to protect or relocate stock where possible while technical attendance is being arranged. The appropriate action will depend on the product, temperatures involved, available alternative storage and the circumstances on site.

♢

Qualifications, Certification & Technical Scope

Ecofix Scotland’s Commercial Refrigeration work is supported by company F-Gas certification together with relevant individual F-Gas Category I and hydrocarbon refrigeration qualification evidence. Work is accepted only where the equipment, refrigerant, task, technical information, tools, competence and authorisation support it.

Detailed evidence is held on Ecofix Scotland’s company-wide Qualifications & Certifications page. The service scope on this page remains controlling even where a qualification title is broader.
