Cold Room Fault Diagnosis & Repairs

Typical reasons for cold-room or freezer-room attendance include:

room temperature too high or unstable;

excessive ice or frost build-up;

defrost problems;

evaporator or condenser fan faults;

compressor, control, sensor or alarm problems;

water or condensate drainage issues;

door, seal or closure problems affecting temperature control;

unusual noise, vibration, electrical tripping or intermittent operation.

Cold-room symptoms can have several possible causes. We therefore inspect and test the system before deciding what repair or corrective action is justified.

Cold Room Servicing & Planned Maintenance

Cold-room servicing can include the refrigeration equipment, controls, fans, defrost components, drainage, accessible electrical components, door/seal condition and other factors relevant to reliable temperature control. The exact work depends on the room design, equipment and operating conditions.

Twice-yearly servicing is the normal starting recommendation for Commercial Refrigeration, with frequency increased where usage, environment, condition or manufacturer requirements justify it. PPM arrangements can add formal asset, scheduling, service-history and outstanding-action control.

Cold Room & Freezer Room Installation

Ecofix Scotland can assess replacement refrigeration equipment, suitable complete refrigeration systems and appropriate proprietary modular insulated room installations for small and medium commercial projects.

The project scope is agreed after assessing the required temperature, room size and construction, intended use, refrigeration duty, equipment location, drainage, electrical services, access and other site conditions.

Scope Boundary – Refrigeration, Enclosure & Building Work

Our core cold-room work is the refrigeration system and associated technical equipment. Door, seal, panel and enclosure condition may be assessed where relevant, and suitable proprietary modular insulated room assembly can form part of an agreed project where it is within competence and scope.

Major structural alterations, building works, specialist floor construction, significant fabric repairs or other trade work outside the agreed technical project are not presented as standard cold-room refrigeration work. Where another trade is required, that need will be identified and can be coordinated where agreed.

Electrical Interface for New Cold Room Installations

Ecofix Scotland may undertake electrical work associated with technical equipment where it falls within the engineer’s competence and authorised service scope. For new installations, the normal Ecofix Scotland boundary is from a suitable local electrical isolator to the equipment.

New electrical circuits, supply to the isolator and work requiring electrical installation certification are undertaken by an appropriately qualified electrician, either arranged by Ecofix Scotland where agreed or by the customer.

Attendance and Servicing Charges

Standard additional engineering time is £75 per hour in 15-minute increments after the included hour. Out-of-hours additional engineering time is £95 per hour. New installation and replacement projects are estimated individually.

Protecting Stock During a Cold Room Failure

Where a cold-room failure puts temperature-sensitive stock at risk, take reasonable practical steps to protect or relocate stock where possible while technical attendance is being arranged. Suitable action depends on the product, temperature, available alternative storage and the circumstances on site.

Qualifications, Certification & Technical Scope

Ecofix Scotland’s Commercial Refrigeration work is supported by company F-Gas certification together with relevant individual F-Gas Category I and hydrocarbon refrigeration qualification evidence. Work is accepted only where the equipment, refrigerant, task, technical information, tools, competence and authorisation support it.

Service Area

Commercial Refrigeration is provided across Ecofix Scotland’s Zone 1 and Zone 2 service areas. Work outside Zones 1 and 2 may be accepted by prior agreement where commercially and operationally appropriate.

Yes, where the refrigeration system and project fall within the current Ecofix Scotland service scope.

Suitable proprietary modular insulated cold/freezer room projects can be undertaken for appropriate small and medium applications following assessment. Major structural/building work outside the agreed technical scope is handled separately.

Door, seal, panel and enclosure condition can be assessed where relevant. The work accepted depends on the component, damage and whether it falls within current competence and project scope.

Do you provide out-of-hours cold-room repairs?

Limited out-of-hours fault attendance is available Monday-Friday 18:00-20:00 and Saturday 08:00-18:00, subject to availability. We do not advertise unrestricted 24/7 or Sunday cover.
