Air Conditioning Fault Diagnosis & Repairs in Central Scotland

If your air-conditioning system is not operating correctly, Ecofix Scotland can investigate the fault and establish the appropriate next action.

Similar symptoms can have different causes, so a discussion of the problem is not treated as a diagnosis.

replacement parts;
refrigerant;
substantial repair work;
extended investigation;
access equipment.

Travel outside the core service area may alter the attendance price. Terms and conditions apply.

Common Reasons for a Diagnostic Visit

Ecofix may be able to investigate suitable systems experiencing:

not cooling;
not heating;
not starting;
error codes;
water leakage;
unusual noise;
intermittent operation;
poor performance;
repeated stopping;
condensate problems;
control faults.

These are symptoms.

The cause still needs to be established through appropriate diagnosis.

Evidence Before Repair

Ecofix’s technical approach follows:

This protects the customer from unnecessary work and helps avoid replacing components based on assumption.

The objective is:

What Can Happen During the Diagnostic Visit?

Minor Issue Corrected

Where a minor issue can appropriately be corrected within the included diagnostic time and agreed scope, it may be dealt with during the visit.

Materials remain chargeable where applicable.

Repair Estimate Required

Where parts or further labour are required:

Further Investigation Required

Some faults require more time, dismantling or testing.

Where practical, Ecofix will explain the requirement before additional chargeable diagnostic time proceeds.

Replacement Recommended

Replacement may be more appropriate where:

repair is uneconomic;
equipment is repeatedly failing;
required parts are unavailable;
the system is no longer technically sensible to repair.

Outside Ecofix Scope

Where the system or work falls outside current capability, Ecofix should say so rather than undertake unsuitable work.

Refrigerant / “Regas” Enquiries

A report that an air conditioner “just needs regassed” should not be accepted as a diagnosis.

If refrigerant has been lost, there may be an underlying cause.

Ecofix should assess the system first and then recommend the technically appropriate next action.

Equipment Support

Ecofix can assess suitable:

split systems;
multi-split systems;
ceiling cassette systems;

subject to:

manufacturer;
equipment age;
technical information;
parts availability;
actual fault;
current competence.

Do not imply every system can be repaired.

Commercial Refrigeration Routing

If the fault relates to:

a cold room;
walk-in chiller;
walk-in freezer;
commercial refrigeration equipment;

use the Commercial Refrigeration service.

Parts & Further Repair Work

Parts requiring ordering are normally paid for before ordering.

A significant repair is not automatically undertaken merely because diagnosis has been completed.

Ecofix will explain the findings and obtain authorisation for further work.

Technical Competence & Trust

Ecofix Scotland Ltd holds current F-Gas company certification covering repair and maintenance/servicing of stationary air-conditioning equipment.

Ian Patterson holds the City & Guilds Level 2 Award in F Gas and ODS Regulations: Category I, covering relevant leak checking, recovery, installation, service and maintenance activities.

He also holds the City & Guilds Level 2 Award in Hydrocarbon Refrigeration, Air Conditioning and Heat Pump System Installation, Servicing and Maintenance.

Qualifications support competent technical work, but they do not replace diagnosis.

Ecofix therefore continues to follow an evidence-based process:

Work is only undertaken where the equipment, fault and required repair fall within current Ecofix competence and service scope.

Service Area

Ecofix Scotland provides AC fault diagnosis across its normal service area.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much is a standard Air Conditioning diagnostic visit?

The Standard Air-Conditioning Diagnostic Visit is £125 within the core service area.

It includes attendance and up to approximately 60 minutes of initial on-site diagnostic time.

Terms and conditions apply.

What happens if diagnosis takes longer than one hour?

Additional diagnostic time is £40 per 30 minutes, where authorised.

Does £125 include the repair?

No.

The diagnostic visit covers the initial fault investigation. Parts, materials and significant repair work are additional.

Can Ecofix tell me the repair price before attending?

Often not reliably.

The cause generally needs to be established before an accurate repair estimate can be prepared.

Can you diagnose the fault from an error code over the phone?

An error code is useful information, but it does not replace appropriate inspection and testing.

Does my system just need more refrigerant?

That should not be assumed without diagnosis. Loss of refrigerant may indicate an underlying problem.

Can Ecofix repair equipment it did not install?

Potentially, subject to the equipment and fault being within current service scope.

Does Ecofix offer guaranteed 24-hour AC repairs?

No. Ecofix does not currently provide guaranteed 24/7 AC attendance.

Air Conditioning Not Working?

Please provide where possible:

postcode;
manufacturer;
model number;
approximate age;
error code;
fault symptoms;
photographs.
